Lovelace Behavioral Senior Care is designed to meet the needs of the elderly experiencing significant deterioration in cognitive functioning or other associated behavioral issues, such as:

Patients are treated through a short-term program of comprehensive assessments, medication evaluation, and stabilization before a coordinated return to an appropriate environment. We have a team of skilled psychiatrists, specialty physicians, nurses, master level therapists, discharge planners and other professional staff dedicated to improving the quality of life of seniors. Lovelace's philosophy is one of working together with family, physicians, long-term care providers and other agencies involved to meet the health care needs of the elderly.

Services

Patients are seen daily by a psychiatrist and receive a psychosocial evaluation within 24-hours of admission. A treatment plan is completed within 48-hours. On-staff physicians allow patients to remain with the same doctor from admission to discharge. Referral sources receive a follow-up call on the day of evaluation/admission. Our services include:

Referral/Admission Process

Evaluations for inpatient acute hospitalizations are conducted around-the-clock.
Lovelace Medical Center is a reliable resource for crisis after-hours.

Lovelace Medical Center welcomes referrals from: hospitals, physicians, nurses, psychologists, therapists, case managers, community agencies, employee assistance programs, nursing homes, assisted living facilities and family members. And of course, we accept walk-ins.

The Medical Director and/or Attending Psychiatrist will review information on patients who have medical needs. Admissions will be determined on a case by case basis. Please include the following information with the referral form:

  • Face sheet
  • Reason for referral
  • H&P (most recent)
  • List of medications the patient is currently using
  • Doctor's notes
  • Nursing notes that describes the resident's behaviors, etc.
  • Medical history
  • Lab work (Must be recent. MD may request repeat lab work when indicated prior to admission.)
    • Required labs are as follows:
    • CBC
    • CMP
    • UA/C&S when indicated will be requested STAT
    • Ammonia Level
    • Medical Drug Screen (when indicated)
    • Thyroid Profile

*Lab Results must be within a 24 to 72 hour period prior to admission.
****Cardiac Enzymes, BNP, and Chest X-Ray may be requested if patient presents with history of congestive heart failure, chronic cardiac conditions, chest pain, or severe anxiety.****
