The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission said Wednesday it has chosen a Lovelace Health Plan policy as the benchmark for health insurance policies to be sold on the state’s health insurance exchange under the federal Affordable Care Act.

Lovelace Health System on Monday rededicated its flagship hospital, the 10-story, 120,000-square-foot Lovelace Medical Center on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. NE. The system has invested almost $120 million on improving the 263-bed hospital, including a recently completed six-month project to clean and recaulk the building, re-seal its windows and cover it with a new brown stucco-like finish. The hospital was built in 1967 and was acquired by Ardent Health Services in 2003 as part of its deal to purchase the old St. Joseph Healthcare System from Catholic Health Initiatives.
