The NEW Lovelace Women’s Hospital Birthing Center at Westside Coming This Winter
The new Lovelace Women’s Hospital Birthing Center at Westside gives Westside and Rio Rancho residents access to birthing services close to home. As New Mexico’s first and only hospital dedicated to women’s health, Lovelace Women’s Hospital will bring their high level of quality of care and expertise to the Westside, having delivered more than 3,600 babies in 2009.
The NEW Birthing Center will include:
- 9 private labor/delivery/recovery/post-partum rooms
- Couplet care
- OB surgical suite (C-section room)
- Lactation program
- 24/7 anesthesiology coverage
- Family-friendly amenities such as in-room sleeping accommodations for a guest, warm soothing colors, WI-FI and flat screen TV’s
- New family-centered unit will promote a warm healing environment
Lovelace Westside Hospital will be renovating approximately 9,300 sq. ft. on the second floor of the hospital to accommodate the Birthing Center. The project investment for the Birthing Center is approximately $4.5 million. The Birthing Center will be staffed by 10 new, full-time Lovelace employees and is expected to grow to 18 by 2014.
At this time, credentialed providers for the Birthing Center will include Albuquerque Health Partners and Women’s Specialists of New Mexico.
- ABQ Health Partners is the largest multi-specialty and independently owned medical group in New Mexico with over 40 OB physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners.
- Women’s Specialists of New Mexico is dedicated to caring for women of all ages from teenagers and mothers-to-be, to midlife and beyond, with over 35 OB physicians, midwives and nurse practitioners.
Prenatal Classes available on the Westside
Childbirth PreParation
Classes to provide expectant parents positive ways to deal with the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy, what to expect at the hospital, labor options, relaxation techniques to ease the labor and delivery process and a tour of the birthing center.
baby care basics
Teaches care-giving skills including bathing, feeding, normal newborn appearance and behavior, soothing a fussy baby and safety tips to first time parents.
