Lovelace Health Plan CEO Ben Slocum said of the firm’s new health care reform website is meant to make it easier for people to understand what is changing.
Lovelace Health Plan has launched an effort to educate its customers and the public about the health care reform law and health insurance exchanges.
The program includes a website dedicated to the educational effort, meetings with brokers and businesses and, in July, a series of town hall meetings with the general public.
“What we really want to be is the trusted advisor. We know that the Affordable Care Act is very complex and confusing and we want to reach out to the community” before open enrollment for the ACA and the insurance exchanges begin in October, said Marlene Baca, chief programs officer for Lovelace Health Plan. “In July we will begin to have town hall meetings where the public will be invited and we will try to inform and educate.” Lovelace hasn’t yet decided how many town hall meetings it will hold, Baca said.

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico recently launched a statewide outreach program to educate the state’s uninsured residents about the benefits of the ACA and the New Mexico Insurance Exchange.
