Lovelace Medical Center-Downtown Administration to Move Immediately to Allow Renovation Construction to Start

ALBUQUERQUE , NM . May 3 – Lovelace Health System announced today that it has purchased CNA's interest in the ground lease for St. Joseph Square , located at 715 Dr. Martin Luther King Avenue in Albuquerque , next to Lovelace Medical Center-Downtown. The property totals 3.3 acres and includes a 55,000 square-foot medical office building and adjacent parking lot.

With the purchase of the lessor's interest, Lovelace Health System will immediately move the Lovelace Medical Center-Downtown administrative offices to St. Joseph Square . This will allow for demolition to start taking place for the $60 million in campus renovations that will take place during the next 12 months.

Both Lovelace Medical Center-Downtown and Lovelace Medical Center-Gibson will remain fully open including both emergency departments while the operations are being joined and construction completed.

Lovelace Medical Center-Downtown will include an Emergency Department double its current size, a state-of-the-art cardiac center, an ambulatory surgery center and a new look for the outside of the building. The construction is part of joining the hospital operations of Lovelace Medical Center-Downtown and Lovelace Medical Center-Gibson.

St. Joseph Square will also house medical offices for Lovelace Medical Group and community physicians. The specialties anticipated to move to the downtown location include cardiology, orthopedics, general and vascular surgery, neurology, hematology and oncology, pulmonary and the anticoagulation clinic.

Outpatient-based clinics and offices for 100 physicians will remain at the Gibson location for two to three more years.

Lovelace Health System comprises four acute care hospitals, a rehabilitation hospital, the Lovelace Health Plan, S.E.D. Medical Laboratories, Lovelace Medical Group and 15 neighborhood health care centers in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Santa Fe.
