The 12th annual KOAT 7 School Supply Drive kicks off this Monday, July 16th and will continue through August 12th. Each year, this community service campaign ensures that thousands of New Mexico children in need receive school supplies so that they can start off their school year with enthusiasm and pride.
The statewide campaign is made possible because of a number of businesses and public institutions giving their time. Here is how it works and how New Mexicans can participate; Supplies are donated at our proud sponsor locations throughout the state, including any New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union, Lovelace Health System hospital, Smith's Food and Drug Stores, or KOAT 7. Donated supplies are picked up by Hot Shot Services, sorted, then are distributed by Albuquerque Public Schools and throughout the state by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
To receive supplies, viewers should call (800) 678-KOAT. Live operators from A Virtual Receptionist will give callers the name and phone number of the person handling distribution in the caller's district. The caller must then contact that person they for instructions on how to receive supplies.
"KOAT is proud to facilitate this drive so that New Mexico Children have the school supplies necessary to start the school year off successfully and full of excitement", said KOAT-TV General Manager Mary Lynn Roper. "Last year 85,000 New Mexico kids had supplies thanks to our viewers and sponsors who made the drive successful".
