Lovelace Westside Hospital’s bariatrics surgery center has received the highest level of certification under the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons, the hospital said.
The hospital, which has been doing bariatric, or weight-loss surgeries since 2009, is the first bariatric surgery center in New Mexico to receive that accreditation, said Dr. Duc Vuong, director of Lovelace Bariatrics.
“With this accreditation, Lovelace Bariatrics has ushered in a new era for weight-loss surgery in the state of New Mexico,” Vuong said. “We remain pioneers and innovators in the field of obesity and metabolic surgery at Lovelace Westside Hospital.”
The hospital applied for the accreditation, and the process involved a site visit from an experienced bariatric surgeon who reviewed the hospital’s facilities, processes, procedures and outcomes, Vuong said.
“We were given an accreditation without stipulation, and that is an acknowledgment that we are experts in the field of bariatrics and that we are dedicated as a team to providing excellent outcomes in bariatrics,” Vuong said.
LWH expects to perform 300 weight-loss surgeries this year, Vuong added.
Dr. Duc Vuong, director of Lovelace Bariatrics, said the Lovelace Westside Hospital is the first facility in New Mexico to receive a certification for its program.
