Asit Bhatt, M.D.
Asit Bhatt, M.D., joins Lovelace Medical Group as an OB-GYN physician with a vast and varied clinical experience in obstetrics and gynecology in Great Britain, India and the United States. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Bhatt earned his bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Mumbai, India. He graduated from the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program of the West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV. Dr. Bhatt has strong surgical skills and specializes in minimally invasive surgery in gynecology. He loves to deliver babies as naturally as possible, while still being adapt at complex obstetric maneuvers. Dr. Bhatt is a member of several professional organizations. He is fluent in Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi and speaks limited Spanish.
Amal Awwad, M.D.
Amal Awwad, M.D., joins Lovelace Medical Group as a board-certified OB-GYN physician with more than 10 years of experience. Dr. Awwad has practiced in both the United States and overseas. Dr. Awwad’s professional interests include of office procedures such as essure tubal ligation, endometrial ablation and hysteroscopy as well as vaginal surgery.
Dr. Awwad earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and her medical degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. She went on to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Detroit Medical Center, where she was named “best overall resident in obstetrics.” Dr. Awwad is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Greater Albuquerque Medical Association.
Dianna Fury, M.D.
Dianna Fury, M.D., joins Lovelace Medical Group as a board-certified family medicine doctor with an extensive background in teaching medicine and medical administration. Dr. Fury joins Lovelace Medical Group from the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where she was the associate family medicine residency program director and an assistant professor. Prior to working for the University of New Mexico, Dr. Fury spent more than 20 years in Cortez, Colo., where she owned her own practice. While in Cortez, Dr. Fury also worked at St. Mary’s, where she was the director of the Rural Training Track, and at Southwest Memorial as chief of staff and the medical director of Rural Health Care. Dr. Fury earned her associates degree in nursing and her bachelor’s degree in biology from Mesa College in Grand Junction, Colo. She earned her medical degree from the University of Colorado in Denver. Dr. Fury completed her residency in family medicine at St. Mary’s in Grand Junction. In 2011, Dr. Fury earned her master’s degree in business administration from Columbia College in Columbia, Mo. Dr. Fury a member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
Felipe Zanghellini, M.D.
Felipe Zanghellini, M.D, is board-certified in general pediatrics and in pediatric infectious disease. He has been practicing medicine since 1991. Prior to joining Lovelace, Dr. Zanghellini practiced for seven years at First Choice Community Healthcare in Albuquerque. Dr. Zanghellini received his medical degree from the University of Chile Medical School in Santiago, Chile, where he graduated with honors. He completed internships in general pediatrics at Luis Calvo Mackenna Children’s Hospital in Santiago, Chile and at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. Zanghellini completed his residency program in pediatrics at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama. He went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric infectious disease at The Children’s Hospital of Alabama – Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease. Dr. Zanghellini is a member of the Albuquerque Medical Society and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Zanghellini is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Karla Giese, DNP, FNP-BC, CDE
Karla Giese, DNP, FNP-BC, CDE, is a certified family nurse practitioner and a certified diabetes educator with a broad range of experience. Karla joins Lovelace from Johnson & Johnson Global Health Services where she implemented a diabetes prevention program and Southwest Endocrinology Associates where she provided full scope endocrine care from 2007-2012. Additionally, Karla teaches graduate level nursing. Prior to moving to New Mexico, she worked in a largecentral Virginia family practice where she evaluated, diagnosed and treated chronic and acute illness. Karla earned her bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, Wis. She earned her master’s in nursing and her family nurse practitioner degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va. Karla went on to earn her doctorate in nursing from the University of Colorado in Denver where she completed a Capstone project on Improving Worksite Obesity Rates in a Manufacturing Plant: A Prospective Cohort Study. In 2012, Karla was named a top provider in endocrinology by Albuquerque the Magazine. Karla has been a speaker and poster presenter at several professional events. Most recently she was invited to speak at the December 2013, International Obesity Symposium in Las Vegas, Nev.
