ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) - Officials have opened a new Lovelace Health Care Center in northeast Albuquerque Thursday.
The primary care clinic was set up to meet the demands of the community.
Doctors say there was a specific need for more services for families in this area of Albuquerque and say the clinic could serve 12,000 to 15,000 residents.
It opened this month to serve patients of all ages, from pediatrics to geriatrics.
The center will offer family medicine and disease management, with a special emphasis on prevention, early diagnosis and wellness. There will also an emphasis on women's health care.
Lovelace accepts most insurance plans.
The clinic's chief medical officer says the goal is to provide more primary care for people, because a lot of people aren't getting it.
“We have an access problem in the country, let alone the greater Albuquerque area. We need more primary care and access to primary health care," Dr. John Cruickshank said.
Officials say there are plans to set up another Lovelace primary care office off of Paseo del Norte and Holbrook by the end of this year.
