Dr. Frank Hesse of Albuquerque is a retired general surgeon, the former chairman of the state Health Policy Commission and one of the founders of a nonprofit organization that recruits health care providers to New Mexico.

And he’s had trouble finding a primary care physician.

“An awful lot of people are looking for doctors and people are calling me,” Hesse said recently. “I’m in the same boat, and I’m a physician.”

Groundbreaking Aortic Aneurysm Procedure Performed

Dr. Steve Henao, an endovascular surgeon at New Mexico Heart Institute, recently performed the first life-saving percutaneous repair of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm at Heart Hospital at New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center. This was the first operation of its kind in the United States.  Dr. Henao recently talked with KASA This Morning about this life-saving procedure.

 

 

Small Changes for Providers With ACA Start Date

When the Affordable Care Act is implemented Jan. 1, do not expect a switch to flip.

Low enrollment in the federal health insurance exchange means New Mexico health care providers will see a modest uptick, if any, in patient load.

“I will tell you that January 1st will be anticlimactic in a meaningful sense as far as the Affordable Care Act goes,” said Stephen Forney, vice president and chief financial officer of Lovelace Health System, which operates hospitals throughout New Mexico and has a campus in Roswell.

Lovelace Medical Group Women’s Health Center opened in October at the Medical Pavilion at Lovelace Women’s Hospital, 4705 Montgomery Blvd NE, Suite 301-302. A second Women’s Health Center will be opening in December on the Westside at the Westside Professional Office, 4801 McMahon Blvd, Suite 110.
