The hospital has been providing quality care and the latest in cutting edge medical technology to Rio Rancho and West Side residents for 25 years. With 2,550 inpatient admissions in 2012, the hospital has 80 beds. Outpatient visits totaled 41,905. The emergency room handled 20,517 visits.

NM Child ADHD Rates Lower Than National Average

A new study by the CDC found that Attention Deficit Hyper Activity Disorder rates among children three to 17 are higher than recent years. The disorder now tops the list at number one for mental health issues of children under 18.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study, about four million children have the disorder nationwide. That amounts to about 7 percent of children.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 found that trend does not carry over to New Mexico. Nevada and the Land of Enchantment have the lowest numbers of ADHD cases.

New health care model centers on the patient

Lovelace and Atrinea Health have partnered to bring a new model for health care to Rio Rancho.
That’s according to Dr. John Cruickshank, the chief medical officer for Lovelace Health System. The model is called patient-centered medical home.

The Rio Rancho primary care clinic is owned and operated by Atrinea, which employs all the clinic’s health care providers — including four primary care doctors who coordinate patient care — and is exclusively for Lovelace Health Plan members.

Breast cancer gene encourages more testing

Shana Sanchez is a vibrant 34-years old woman and is dealing with her second bout of breast cancer.

Three years ago, Sanchez discovered a lump in her breast and immediately went to doctors who diagnosed it as cancer. She went through chemotherapy and had a lumpectomy which removed the lump and took care of the cancer.

Then in February 2013 cancer showed up again, this time in her other breast.

Lovelace Health Care Center Opens in Roswell

In order to better provide Roswell citizens with local healthcare services, Lovelace Regional Hospital-Roswell opened Lovelace Health Care Center, a new primary care clinic at 1112 N. Main St. on Thursday.

Staffed by Glenn Vogelsang, M.D., Ph.D., and Cynthia Sam-Vogelsang, a certified nurse practitioner, Lovelace Health Care Center will include preventive care, health education, long term care, chronic illness management and wellness screenings. Same-day appointments will also be available.
