Lovelace donates vans to El Ranchito de los Niños

Spring weather graced the quiet rural Los Lunas community the morning Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital made a special donation to El Ranchito de los Niños, a nonprofit alternative to foster care that keeps siblings together.

The hospital gave El Ranchito two shuttle vans, one with only 84,000 miles and both in great running order. The hospital could no longer use them because they lack the current safety standards for new wheelchair lifts.

At some point after the federal Affordable Care Act takes effect in January 2014, pretty much every American will have health insurance.

ABRAHAM LICHTMACHER, M.D., has joined the Lovelace Health System (LHS) as chief of women’s services. Lichtmacher has been in clinical practice for 30 years and most recently worked as the chief of obstetrics and gynecology for the Rochester General Health System in New York. He has a medical degree from New York Medical College; received postgraduate training in obstetrics and gynecology at the Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Lichtmacher is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Lovelace Renovates Westside ER to Benefit Pediatric Patients

Now kids can feel comfortable if they have to go to the emergency room at Lovelace Westside Hospital.

The hospital recently finished a $250,000 renovation project that turned four of its emergency department exam rooms into kid-friendly areas that feature flat-screen TVs and penguin-themed murals designed to make patients under 17 feel more comfortable when they visit the 90-bed hospital.

The renovated rooms are themed just like the 2,200-square-foot inpatient pediatric unit the hospital opened in May 2011.

Lovelace Health System in New Mexico to Accept Tricare Beneficiaries

Starting April 1, Lovelace Health System in Albuquerque, N.M., will be in-network for all Tricare beneficiaries.

Tricare is the health plan for all military personnel and their families. Lovelace CFO Stephen Forney said there are more than 60,000 Tricare beneficiaries in New Mexico.
