Lovelace Westside Hospital has received the 2012 Zia Award from New Mexico Quality Awards for demonstrating the highest level of performance excellence and being considered the “Best in Class” and a role model in New Mexico. The New Mexico Quality Awards, modeled after the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, provides participating organizations with feedback on their strengths and their opportunities for improvement. The winners will be recognized at an award ceremony in April 2013.

Governor Commits to Medicaid Expansion

The state of New Mexico will accept what could be as much as $6.2 billion from the federal government between 2014 and 2020 to expand Medicaid coverage to an estimated 170,000 adults, Gov. Susana Martinez announced Wednesday.

“Access to health insurance has the potential to improve the well being of our families so our kids can learn better in school and so mom and dad can be better parents and more productive employees,” she said.

New CEO Named At Lovelace Westside Hospital

Lovelace Westside Hospital’s new CEO is relishing the challenges of competing with new hospitals in Rio Rancho.

Farron Sneed joined the 80-bed West Side hospital at Golf Course and McMahon late last month, replacing   Troy Greer, who was made CEO of the Lovelace Medical Center in Downtown Albuquerque in July. Greer had held the position since 2007.

Two area couples will have another reason to celebrate Jan. 1 — it’s the day they became parents.
Maiya Abigail, the first baby of the new year in Roswell, was born 4:47 a.m., Tuesday, at Lovelace Regional Hospital-Roswell to Lori Shirley and Dale Brunson. She weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces and was 19 inches in length.

Shirley said Maiya was supposed to be due Jan. 17, but she had been hoping to have her for New Year’s.

“I just feel blessed to finally have her,” she said.

First ABQ Baby Born in 2013

Lovelace Women’s Hospital New Year’s baby was born at 3:50 a.m. to Adrianna Saavedra and Erasto Gutierrez.  Baby Leeanna Maya Gutierrez weighed 6 pounds 5 ounces and is 19 inches in length. Baby Leeanna was one of the first New Year’s babies born in Albuquerque.

Janet Hardt New Director of Women's Services

Lovelace Regional Hospital-Roswell has named Janet Hardt, CNM, MSN, as its new director of Women’s Services. Hardt started in her new position on Nov. 26. Hardt has a diverse and distinguished career in nursing that spans 25 years. Most recently, she served as a certified nurse-midwife for Rio Pecos Medical Associates in Roswell. Prior to that she worked at Women’s Health Center in Artesia and Artesia General Hospital. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of New Mexico and holds a master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Texas.

Lovelace Health System has hired two new executive level staff members. They are Farron Sneed, CEO for Lovelace Westside Hospital. Sneed has 20 years of experience in health care administration and previously worked as the chief operating officer/facility compliance officer for Bluefield Regional Medical center in Bluefield, West Virginia. Prior to that, Sneed served as the Assistant Chief Executive Officer at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona. He has also served as an administrator at McKinney Surgery Center in McKinney, Texas.
