NextCare Holdings will open up to four more urgent care clinics in the Albuquerque area, and that could lead to at least 100 jobs for the area.
NextCare Holdings of Mesa, Ariz., opened its first urgent care clinic in partnership with Lovelace Health System on Oct. 1. A second is due to open in December, and NextCare President and CEO John Julian said the firm might open a total of five clinics with Lovelace in the coming year.
“Our goal is to open four or five and we are actively looking for sites,” Julian told Albuquerque Business First. “We would like to get four or five going. We feel that could serve the population pretty well.”
The clinics will be located throughout the metro area, including the South Valley, Julian added.
NextCare is a 20-year-old, privately-held company that operates 90 urgent care clinics in eight states. The firm has 1,450 employees.
“We are one of the largest urgent care operators in the nation and we have been expanding quite rapidly over the last couple of years, including our entrance into New Mexico and the first clinic we opened with Lovelace,” Julian said.
Each clinic is staffed by 20 people, “so by the time we’re finished we could have 100 New Mexico employees,” Julian added.
The clinics are owned and staffed by NextCare and are being co-branded with Lovelace.
Dr. John Cruickshank , CEO of Lovelace Medical Group and chief medical officer for Lovelace Health System, said Lovelace “will continue to work with NextCare to discuss future locations and opportunities in 2014 and beyond.”
