Sustained Improvement in Reducing Patient Harm

MissionZero is Lovelace Medical Center’s commitment to providing a culture of safety for patients, their loved ones, and one another. It is evident in every decision and action we take, understanding that we all contribute to creating a safe environment, whether we care for patients or support those who do. In alignment with our MissionZero journey to prevent patient harm, Lovelace Medical Center (LMC) created a goal to reduce C.Diff infection rates in our hospital. Clostridium Difficile, C.Diff, is a highly contagious gastrointestinal bacteria that can lead to extended length of stay, increased pain, and other complications. Our goal was to reduce our C. Diff infection rates by 50% in one year by practicing purposeful reviews, partnering with our providers to ensure use of appropriate testing and treatments, and embedding Infection Control oversight into our practice. We are proud to say we not only exceeded our goal but we sustained the results for over 5 consecutive quarters. Our journey to accomplishing this goal has not only improved patient safety but also elevated the quality of care we deliver.
