Diabetes and Metabolism Care Clinic Nationally Accredited

The Diabetes and Metabolism Care Clinic at Lovelace Medical Group/Southwest Medical Associates has received accreditation from the American Association of Diabetes Education (AADE).

AADE accredited programs must provide evidence that they meet or exceed the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education.  AADE’s Accreditation Program requires the delivery of education content and also encourages behavior change, with the aim of improving the health status of people with diabetes.

“This accreditation is important because patients can be assured that we have the experience and training to offer comprehensive diabetes education and self-management support,” said Teresa Anderson, RDN, from the Diabetes and Metabolism Care Clinic. “The Diabetes Education Accreditation Program validates that our program meets the national standards and assures the participants are receiving quality education to help support their needs in self-managing their diabetes.”

Diabetes and Metabolism Care Clinic is staffed by Dr. Karla Giese, DNP, FNP, CDE, Metabolic Coordinator; Teresa Anderson, RDN, LD, CDE, Education Program Coordinator; and Beverly Bennett, LPN, Patient Care Coordinator.  The staff brings more than 20 years of experience in diabetes education and management. “We provide patient-centric, evidence-based care in a manner that promotes self-efficacy around metabolic health promoting behaviors such as lifestyle, self-monitoring, use of medications and coping,” said Dr. Giese.

Diabetes education services are offered at three of our locations including, Southwest Medical Associates Northside, Southwest Medical Associates Westside and Lovelace Medical Group at Constitution. The clinic offers group and individual diabetes education and support, in addition to medical consults and long term diabetes management.
