Lovelace Health Plan Gets 4 Stars

Better Medicare rating boosts hearing and dental services

Lovelace Health Plan was recently awarded four stars by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for its Lovelace Medicare Plan for 2012, an increase from its 3½ star rating in 2011. Medicare evaluates provider plans on more than 36 topics in five categories — staying healthy, managing chronic conditions, health plan responsiveness and care, member complaints and appeals, and health plan telephone customer service, says Marlene Baca, Lovelace Health Plan chief sales and service officer.

Medicare gives the overall plan rating after evaluating Medicare member surveys, information from doctors and other clinicians, information from the plan and results from Medicare’s regular monitoring, Baca says. The new rating for 2012 will give members who sign up by Dec. 7 additional benefits that include an annual hearing exam and a $300 annual hearing aid allowance, an annual $150 eyewear benefit, dental benefits and a $5 co-pay for generic drug prescriptions, which is a decrease from $7 last year.

Beginning in October the former Lovelace Senior Plan became the Lovelace Medicare Plan. For more information on ratings, visit
