Lovelace Health System donates 10 AEDs to Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation

ALBUQUERQUE, May 31, 2018 – Through a $10,000 donation, Lovelace Health System has helped the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation’s Project Pulse place 10 automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in much-needed community organizations throughout New Mexico.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only independent ratings program that focuses exclusively on how effectively hospitals keep their patients safe, making it the gold standard measure of patient safety focusing on patient infections, including falls and trauma, and preventable complications from surgery.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - By the end of the day Friday, more than 100 female volunteers will have spent about 500 hours building a house for an Albuquerque mom.

In just the first five days, the women helped go from just a slab of cement to nearly finishing the walls and structure of the entire first floor.

“The progress that we've made is pretty amazing,” said Bill Reilly, construction manager for Greater Albuquerque Habitat for Humanity.

New Mexico's midwife programs garner national attention

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - A study published in February highlights New Mexico as having more successful midwife programs than most of the country.

A group of researchers ranked New Mexico second in the U.S. when it comes to the high number of midwives, and low number of pregnancy-related complications. “New Mexico as a state with its high number of midwives practicing here, has some of the lowest cesarean birth rates around the country,” said Dr. Abraham Lichtmacher, Chief of Women’s Services with Lovelace Health System.

Albuquerque woman in need of kidney transplant finds match with co-worker

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - An Albuquerque woman has been battling a kidney disease for most of her life. Recently her prognosis worsened and she found out she needed a transplant.

After asking friends, Helen Nielsen, said it was a co-worker who stepped in and said: "Where do I sign up?"

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) - There was a special birthday celebration at Lovelace Women's Hospital on Thursday. Virginia Mcelyea has volunteered at Lovelace since she was 65 years old.

Thursday, she turned 95. Surrounded by family and coworkers, Ginny rang in another year with cake in the hospital's cafeteria.

"It's a good place to work and I enjoy coming on Thursday and I will come until I drop dead. Hope it's not next year," said Mcelyea, laughing.
